Roles & Responsibilities – Design Manager/Engineer (HVAC)

Role Summary

Design Manager/Engineer HVAC system will be responsible for the overall design delivery of the HVAC systems. The role will include design, coordinate and provide design, drawings, specifications, BOQ and other technical documents for tender and operating projects. The person also needs to coordinate with site execution team and vendors to ensure that design is followed, and T&C is done accordingly. He/she should have expertise in all types of building projects like residential, commercial, airports, hospitals, railways and metros, public spaces like stadium, malls, hotels, convention centre, offices/IT buildings etc.

Desired Skills

1. Should have 3 to 12 years design experience on HVAC systems.
2. Any certification related to HVAC systems & Green building is an added advantage.
3. Good knowledge on technical specification, design calculation and analysis of the requirement of all the HVAC systems. The person who has working experience in HAP Software is must.
4. Expertise in Smoke Ventilation design as per codal requirements & RFP requirements.
5. Ventilation & Pressurization system design
6. Knowledge of Equipment selection is must.
7. Knowledge on interdisciplinary input preparation for Electrical/ELV/Fire/ Architect/Civil etc.
8. Basic working knowledge on AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks
9. Knowledge on Coding language like VBA Macros, Python etc., shall be added advantage.
10. Knowledge on Coding language like DYNAMO, Design Builder simulation shall be added advantage.

Responsibilities/Capabilities – General.

1. Perform as Lead HVAC Systems Designer, Expertise with the Design of “Airports & Hangar Maintenance shops, Metro Rails & Maintenance Depots, Convention and Exhibition Halls, IT Parks, Tall Buildings, Datacentre, Hospitals & Stadium design” based on Globally / Nationally accepted Codes and Standards.
2. Should have worked on Heat Load calculation through HAP Software & Strong knowledge on Manual Heat load calculation & fundamentals of Psychrometrics.
3. Should have Design knowledge of High side and Low side systems.
4. Should have in depth knowledge of District cooling system, Chilled water system (Air cooled and Water-cooled system), VRF System, DX System, Precision AHU system, Radiant cooling system, Thermal Energy storage system, Heating system (Winter heating & Reheating), Basement Ventilation System, Fume Hood Exhaust System, Bio Safety Cabinet Exhaust System, etc.,
5. Determines the size of HVAC ducting, and preparation of ducting layout and perform friction loss calculation of duct work.
6. Determines the size of water and chilled water piping, preparation of piping layout and perform pump head calculations for the chilled water piping.
7. Establish Systems for Bill of Materials / Quantity Take Off for Tender projects.
8. Perform all MEP design activities and coordinate with Architect, Structure, ELV systems, Public Heath, Piping, Fire Fighting and HVAC Engineering to ensure quality compliance in accordance with client & owner expectations in most economical manner.
9. Responsible for review and check the vendor drawings & technical datasheet for various equipment’s like Chiller, Pumps, Cooling Towers etc., and further low side items like Piping, ducting, Air distribution products etc., and Subcontractor shop drawings.
10. Reviews of suppliers documents and liaise with suppliers for technical inputs and inquiries.
11. Responsible for obtaining all approvals from Stack holders – Clients, Client representative, Consultant, Approval authorities.
12. Visiting project sites for verifying and resolving all design related issues with sites.
13. Should be well versed with all software’s and use various digital tools.
14. Should be able to Coordinate and Manage with Client/External Agencies and sub-contractors.
15. Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.
16. Properly plan and schedule the activities of the Department in its need to deliver timely engineering design services.
17. Keep abreast of the latest design software and evaluate its efficiency to the department and the organization.
18. Suggests plans and programs that strive to boost the effectiveness of the department.
19. Understand control system layout and sequence of operation, equipment schedules.
20. Prepares periodic reports with respect to the Division's/ Department's activities and achievements to be submitted to the Managers.
