Role Overview

The Design Head will lead end-to-end design management for a large-scale hyperscale data center project. This role involves coordinating multidisciplinary design teams, ensuring compliance with global standards, and delivering high-quality, cost-effective, and scalable design solutions aligned with project timelines.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design Leadership

Lead architectural, structural, and MEP design for hyperscale data center projects

Ensure alignment with Amazon (AWS) data center design standards and guidelines

Drive design innovation while maintaining reliability and redundancy (Tier III / Tier IV concepts)

2. Stakeholder Management

Act as the primary interface between client, consultants, and internal teams

Collaborate with global design teams and vendors

Present design strategies, progress, and risk assessments to senior leadership

3. Design Coordination

Manage multidisciplinary teams: Architecture, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Fire Protection

Ensure seamless integration of:

Power systems (UPS, DG, transformers)

Cooling systems (CRAC, chillers, liquid cooling if applicable)

IT spaces and white space planning

4. Compliance & Standards

Ensure adherence to:

International standards (e.g., Uptime Institute Tier standards)

ASHRAE guidelines

Local statutory and regulatory requirements

Implement best practices for energy efficiency and sustainability

5. Project Delivery

Drive design schedules aligned with construction milestones

Identify and mitigate design risks early

Ensure design deliverables meet quality, cost, and timeline targets

6. Vendor & Consultant Management

Manage external design consultants and specialist vendors

Review and approve design submissions, drawings, and technical specifications

Support procurement with technical evaluations

7. Innovation & Optimization

Introduce value engineering initiatives

Optimize PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) and operational efficiency

Explore emerging technologies (modular DCs, AI cooling, liquid cooling)

Key Skills & Competencies

Strong expertise in hyperscale data center design (AWS/Microsoft/Google standards preferred)

Deep understanding of:

Electrical systems (MV/LV distribution, redundancy)

Mechanical cooling systems

Building management systems (BMS/DCIM)

Leadership and team management

Excellent stakeholder communication

Risk management and problem-solving mindset

Qualifications

Bachelors / Masters in Engineering (Electrical / Mechanical / Civil) or Architecture

Professional certifications are a plus:

PMP

LEED / Green Building certifications

Data center certifications (CDCDP, ATD, etc.)

Preferred Experience

Experience working on hyperscale data center projects (Amazon/AWS preferred)

Exposure to global design coordination

Experience in fast-track, mission-critical projects
