Roles & Responsibilities – Design Manager/Engineer (FPS & FAS)

Role Summary

Design Manager/Engineer FPS and FA system will be responsible for the overall design delivery of the Fire Protection, detection & Alarm systems. The role will include multiple tasks but not limited to design development, coordinate & provide detail design, drawings, specifications, BOQ and other technical documents for tender and operating projects. The Engineer also needs to coordinate with site execution team and vendors to ensure that design is followed, and ITC is done accordingly. He/she should have expertise in various types of building projects like residential, commercial, Airports, Healthcare, Railways and Metros, Public spaces like Stadia, Malls, Hotels, Convention Centre, Data Centers, Offices/IT buildings, Residential buildings, etc.

Desired Skills

1. Should have 3 to 12 years design experience on FPS & FAS systems.
2. Any certification related to Fire Protection System such as NFPA CFPS or relevant will be an added advantage.
3. Good knowledge on technical specification, design calculation and analysis of the requirement of all the FPS & FA systems. Prior experience in various software like PIPENET, SprinkCAD etc., will be an added advantage.
4. Well versed in International, National & Local Statutory Codes & Other prominent Codes & Standards viz., NFPA, BS-EN, etc.
5. Should have good knowledge on verification of life safety aspects like egress design, egress calculation, travel distance, fire compartmentalization etc.,
6. Knowledge on interdisciplinary input preparation for Electrical/HVAC/ELV/Plumbing/Architect/Civil etc.
7. Should have knowledge to propose fire fighting systems for special buildings applications which are beyond codes & Standards.
8. Basic working knowledge on AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks

Responsibilities – For Tender Project:

1. Capability to quickly understand the project and preparing queries in coordination with the manager/immediate supervisor.
2. Documentation & preparation of drawings, compliances for obtaining local fire authority approval (NOC)
3. For details which are not available in tender, the candidate should be capable of providing the design anticipating the necessary requirements as per standard norms, codes and best engineering practices.
4. Preparation of Service Inputs w.r.to FPS & FA systems which may include but not limited to Pump room space planning, shaft location, fire compartmentalization, refuge area, fire command center, fire pump load etc.,
5. Capability in extraction of details from the BIM Models if provided by client.
6. Preparation of project scope of works /project brief.
7. Preparation of simulation reports using software like Fire Dynamics Simulation etc.,
8. Preparation of tender BOQ /estimate, quantity take off sheets, indices etc…
9. Preparation of Value Engineering options.
10. Preparation of schematic drawings in AutoCAD.
11. Candidate should be able to coordinate with other disciplines and facilitate seamless input sharing.
12. Candidate shall have knowledge on estimation of FPS & FA system.
13. Candidate to update the manager /immediate supervisor in all the steps of project mentioned above and appraising him/her on any support required or clarifications required.
14. Carrying out Factory Inspection of major fire-fighting equipment

Responsibilities – For Operating Project:

1. Identifying and aligning himself/herself based on the modality of operation for the design stage.
2. Discussing with manger/immediate supervisor on the key milestones w.r.to design and execution at project site to initiate the procurement BOQs, drawings etc…
3. Preparation of the DBR, Drawings, BOQ and other technical documents as per the project requirement and client needs.
4. Obtaining approvals on the design submissions from client /other stake holders.
5. Participate in Coordination meetings and ensuring the relevant data w.r.to FPS & FA systems are exchanged with the concerned disciplines.
6. Support procurement team in technical evaluation of the FPS & FA Systems vendors/sub-contractors in consultation with immediate supervisor/manager.
7. First Level QA/QC Review of GFC Drawings and Coordination drawings and submitting the same for manager/immediate supervisor review and approval.
8. Review and Approval of Shop Drawings.
9. Generating hydraulic models & arriving volumetric demand & head of pump for various fire-fighting system using PIPENET / external software
10. Supporting Site Execution team in installation, testing, commissioning and handover.
11. Responsible for design, validation and finalisation of FPS & FA systems
12. Reviewing & approval technical data sheet, shop drawings by vendor / OEM Carrying out Factory Inspection of major fire-fighting equipment
13. Responsible to prepare design engineering inputs, coordinate with BIM Modelers for delivery of drawings.
14. Generation of data bank of various projects for future analysis
15. Monitoring of quantities & price with respect to agreed ACE for control of quantities with due reconciliation from execution team
